VIP SOCCER (VERY IMPORTANT PLAYERS) PROGRAM
FOR PLAYERS WITH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DISABILITIES.
There is no age limit for VIP players as long as they remain on VIP teams. VIP teams may include individuals with Downs’s syndrome or mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbances, visual impairments or other conditions that impair mobility, strength and/or comprehension
The VIP program is new here in Region 440 although it is not new to AYSO.
We think it’s only fair that all kids are able to participate in the AYSO World. The world of possibilities: where the joy of participation, the camaraderie of teamwork and the thrill of playing soccer are no longer just dreams, but realities. We want to welcome these players to the world of VIP Soccer: where goals are celebrated no matter for whose team they count, where referees are hugged and smile through out the game, where parents cry in joy as they cheer the players on.
What awaits the players, families and buddies are opportunities and experiences you perhaps never dreamed possible. Our experience, as may be yours, is that individuals with physical and mental disabilities are often less visible in society and mainstream youth sports mirror that. While special needs players who are able to successfully participate on mainstream teams are visible, many more potential players who could not mainstream successfully stay at home while siblings participate in sports and other activities.

Welcome VIP players. AYSO prides itself on being inclusive rather than exclusive. Since its birth in 1964, AYSO has prided itself on open registrations rather than tryouts and in mandating that every player plays at least half of every game. AYSO re-committed in 1991 to inclusion by embracing a wider interpretation of this concept. AYSO begin creating solutions to enable a more diverse population to play. The
VIP Program was born.
AYSO believes that all people need opportunities to enjoy the benefits of sport, of playing on a team, of learning skills, of making friends. The Very Important Player program fills this need, providing opportunities for fitness, fun and friendship. We hope your experience as a player, or a buddy, or a sibling or parent is an enjoyable and rewarding one. Please if you have a need for this program, or have a need to help with this program AYSO needs you.

TO BUDDY OR NOT OT BUDDY?

There are reasons that AYSO recommends that parents not fill the role of the buddy on the field:

Ø Parents have full-time duty at all other times.

They deserve a chance to relax.

Ø Parents need to learn to let go and let their child rely on other people at times.

Ø Players are apt to act their worst with mom or dad on the field with them

Parents on the sidelines have more opportunities to meet and form friendships with other parents. This is extremely important! AYSO has found that the camaraderie encourages consistent attendance and participation which benefit the players – and the parents!

We hope you will join our us and be a happy part of a family organization that has always put it’s players first!

VIP teams will practice and play games on an assigned night each season.   VIP players will pay a special fee of $30.00. This will cover them with insurance while participating in AYSO.
