You should not measure your success as a coach by the number of games that your team has won, but by the number of players who enjoyed the season enough to return the next year.

Games can not be cancelled by the coaches. Referee's are the person besides the Regional Commissioner that can cancel games. Usually the only reason a gain can be canceled is for Lightning or Tornado watches. If you feel you must cancel or reschedule a game, please check the handout. You must also notifiy the Regional commissioner and game scheduler so this game may be re-scheduled.
AYSO Region 440
February 28, 2001
Remember that games are for the players and are intended to be fun. But it's also important that the game schedule be volunteer friendly. Generally, that means abiding by the posted schedule unless there is good reason to make a change.
Coaches are encouraged to work with an assistant coach so
that a personal schedule conflict doesn't require a game cancellation. If
a schedule conflict is unavoidable, please adhere to the guidelines below. Changes should be made as far in advance as
possible.
A)
The RC or
his/her designee, e.g. the Game Scheduling Coordinator, must approve all
scheduling decisions.
B)
The RC, his or her
designee, and the Safety Director are the only persons authorized to cancel games,
except that the game referee may cancel a game in accordance with the Laws of
the Game.
1. It is the responsibility of the person who cancels the game
to confirm as soon as possible that the Referee Administrator, Game Scheduling
Coordinator and both coaches are notified.
2. Games canceled under this provision may be rescheduled at
the Region’s discretion and upon the approval of the RC and/or Game Scheduling
Coordinator.
3. Games terminated by the referee due to the conduct of
spectators or players will not be re-scheduled. When it is necessary to decide the winner of a game that has been
terminated by a referee, the RC shall appoint a panel of three (3) neutral
Board or Staff members to determine the winner.
C)
If both team coaches
agree in advance not to play a game, they must notify the Game Scheduling
Coordinator and the Referee Administrator (or the scheduled game referee in the
R.A.’s absence) no less than 72 hours in advance or as soon as possible in the
event of an emergency. They should
indicate whether the game is to be canceled or rescheduled.
1. If the coaches wish to reschedule the game, it is their
responsibility to:
a. Agree on the time and place,
b. Obtain the approval of the Game Scheduling Coordinator, and
c. Obtain adequate referee coverage.
2. If only one coach wishes to cancel a game, the same process
of notification shall occur and the game shall be considered a forfeit.
D)
Games that are
cancelled without adherence to these guidelines will not be re-scheduled.
